Women’s Golf at Federal
SUPPORTING WOMEN IN GOLF (SWING)
Calling all women in Canberra! Federal Golf Club welcomes you to experience golf.
Never played? Never considered golf? Have you ever thought of anything worse? Don’t worry. Federal’s Supporting Women in Golf (SWinG) program is the perfect opportunity to get your friends together and give golf a go.
Careful though, you might just surprise yourself and love it!
To give golf a try, contact Michelle Leggo via e-mail – email@example.com
Cost: $20 per session.
Bookings: To attend a clinic, please contact the Pro Shop (firstname.lastname@example.org | 6281 1888 opt 2) with your preferred clinic time. Please note that bookings are essential.
If for some reason you are unable to attend a clinic, please let us know so we can notify a player who may prefer your timeslot.
On those days when only social play is available, please meet outside the Proshop ready to play at 8:30am. Please note that for July, social play will commence at 9:30am. Volunteers will meet you at the Proshop and help you out as needed. You may email Michelle (email@example.com) prior to the day to let me know that you are intending to play. This helps volunteers to divide their time and to arrange players into manageable groups. These occasions are also ideal times to play for a handicap.
Note that clinics are optional. You may be happy to participate in both the Clinics and the Social 9 Holes. However, others may want to choose to only participate in one option, either the Clinic or the Social 9 Holes – not a problem either way.
|Monday 24 February||Clinics at 8:30am and 9:30am – focus on swinging with irons – followed by social play|
|Monday 20 January||Clinics at 8:30am and 9:30am – focus on full swing – followed by social play|
|Monday 27 January||No SWinG – public holiday|
|Monday 3 February||Social play only – please email Michelle with your preferred tee time of 8:15am or 8:45am|
|Monday 10 February||Clinics at 8:30am and 9:30am – focus on chipping and putting – followed by social play|
|Monday 17 February||Social play only – please email Michelle with your preferred tee time of 8:15am or 8:45am|
Message of Welcome from the Women’s President
As the current President of the Women’s Committee, I would like to extend a warm welcome to anyone who is considering joining us at Federal. Our members are a friendly group of women of all ages who enjoy playing golf regularly in a convivial, relaxed environment, on a course that can challenge beginners and more experienced golfers alike. Our weekly competition day is held on Tuesday where around 60-70 players regularly compete in Stableford, Par, Stroke or Fourball events followed by lunch and presentation of prizes in the clubhouse. Of course women also can play in the Professional’s medley competitions on Friday, Saturday and Sunday as well.
We support new players to obtain their handicap and learn the basics and etiquette of golf through our popular SWinG (Supporting Women in Golf) program which is held on Mondays. We also hold 9 hole competitions on all golfing days for those who are time poor or are not quite ready to tackle 18 holes.
Informal social activities also form an important part of our club life and we hold fun events throughout the year.
So if you are an experienced golfer or a beginner I look forward to meeting and welcoming you to our lovely friendly club so that you too can also enjoy our beautiful golf course.
President of the Women’s Committee
MESSAGE OF WELCOME FROM THE WOMEN’S captain
As you have read this far, you are obviously keen on golf. As the current Women’s Captain, I have included for you some more detailed information about Women’s golf at Federal.
We pride ourselves on being a very friendly, welcoming club where new members soon feel at home. Whether you are a serious golfer, a golfer who enjoys the game and the social interactions involved, or a beginning golfer, you will find like minded, welcoming women at Federal.
Currently the ‘Women’s only’ competition is played on Tuesdays with 60 to 70 women in the field. We have a varied program with a good mix of stroke, stableford, par and team games. The Friday and Sunday competitions are medley competitions when approximately 30-40 women play. The Saturday group is usually smaller but growing. Several mixed competitions are also played throughout the year.
Federal women participate in a range of yearly club competitions as well as District, State and Golf Australia events. We enter teams in all the District Pennant competitions and play regular interclub matches with 4 other GolfNSW clubs. Many of our women members also travel and play together at other clubs.
Our 9-hole membership provides a fabulous option for members; who are new to golf, as a stepping stone for women who have taken advantage of our Supporting Women in Golf (SWinG) group, or those who prefer the shorter, less time consuming game. There are 9-hole competitions available to women on Tuesdays, Fridays and Sundays.
I strongly encourage anyone thinking of joining a golf club in Canberra or taking up golf, to come and play a few rounds at Federal or join the (SWinG) group on Mondays.
