Rick Muir wins Acton Trophy!

Published in Sticky News

Rick Muir shot a brilliant 41 points in arctic condition on Saturday 10 August to win the prestigious Acton Trophy, kindly donated by Club stalwart Graham World. Well played, Rick!   His nearest rivals (four shots further back on 37) were Daniel Gray and Steve Audsley. Overall a great day for the A Graders who handled the conditions more effectively and filled the top seven positions.

Rick recently re-joined the Club after many years, having previously been a Junior member in his younger days. He commented after play how thrilled he was to receive the Trophy noting its commemoration of the Club’s historical links and its connection with Graham World, the editor of the now ‘technologically replaced’ Club newsletter “The Federalist”. Rick recalls being an avid reader of the “Federalist” when he was a Junior and relying on it, like all members, for Club news and interesting golfing stories.  Rick has expressed his thanks to Graham World for his ongoing support to Federal Golf Club, a message supported by all.

Rick also made the comment that he was attracted to re-joining the Club in June after his wife alerted him to the new exciting membership initiatives currently available. His victory represents a win for individual achievement, a win for Club initiatives, and a great opportunity for all members to contemplate and commemorate the Club’s rich history.

In that regard, it is timely to note that among other historical milestones about which the Acton Trophy reminds us, this Wednesday 14 August 2019 is the 71st anniversary of golf being played at Federal’s current Red Hill site.
